Daily (or close to it)
- Dust mop or vacuum high-traffic areas. Use the hard-floor setting and no beater bar on stone.
- Wipe spills right away, especially wine, coffee, citrus, soda and anything acidic.
- Squeegee or towel off the shower.
Weekly
- Damp mop with a pH-neutral stone cleaner (stone) or a neutral floor cleaner (tile, VCT).
- Shake out or vacuum entry mats.
- Wipe around pet bowls and sinks.
- Outside: blow off the patio and pool deck.
Monthly
- Check grout lines in the kitchen and baths. Darkening means they need a deeper clean.
- Look for new open holes in travertine. Catching them early keeps them from filling with dirt.
- Rinse the pool deck with fresh water, especially with a salt pool.
- Commercial VCT: burnish on schedule.
Every few months
- Do the water drop test in busy spots (how it works).
- Check felt pads on chair and table legs and replace worn ones.
- Commercial: plan a scrub and recoat if the finish is wearing thin in traffic lanes.
Yearly-ish
- Reseal stone and grout if the water test says so.
- Have open holes filled before they spread.
- Pool deck: deep clean and reseal as needed.
- Commercial VCT: full strip and wax once or twice a year, depending on traffic.
Never
- Vinegar, bleach, lemon or "natural" acidic cleaners on stone
- Mop-and-shine products on stone
- Abrasive pads or powders
- Sealing over dirt
